Red LED on ambient temp gauge 900 1994

One of our 940Ts has digital ambient temperature gauge. I'd never seen one on a 940 before, and I've never had this car out of Florida; my daughter drove it to Indiana last weekend and is wondering if the red LED that came on next to the gauge is just an "idiot light" version of a freezing temperature warning (yes, it is below 32F there), or an indicator of something completely different.

On our 1994 940t the light and temperature gauge came as part of the "nordic package", which included heated outside mirrors and heated seats. More useful features for Florida driving.

Do you have a pic of the ambient temp gauge and the red LED ? The ambient temp guage was standard on 94+(?) 940s I think. I was thinking about installing one for my 92 940 but gave up when I heard the price( $200+ just for the gauge ).

The temper sensor is located low on the front bumper on the driver’s side. If temps are 35F or lower the light comes on to warn of potential freezing roads.

Actually, on my 745, it comes on at about 35, and off around 27. I think this is to warn of the very slippery conditions which exist at these temperatures if there is ice, which is much slippier in this range because of the layer of water which is there or easily forms under the tire.. At lower temps it is not as slippery
