Valve Tic 700 1990

I love my 760 T and want to keep it running well. I am thinking about shimming the valves/lifters to see if that quietens it down any.

Curious what you all think.

you can cause more problems than you solve by adjusting the valves especially if valve check/ adjustment has not been done like clockwork...

It wouldn't hurt to adjust the valves, but I think replacing the "hushers" would go further in terms of quieting down the valvetrain noise. I don't really notice the valvetrain noise on mine because of the piston slap!

Good luck!

Hushers? I had the same problem and had my valves adjusted (stupid calipers required to open the valve cover without damaging it forced me to pay 180 for it).
Now, about a year later, I've got a noise that sounds like someone tapping their fingers on a table in a rolling motion. dit dit dit dit, dit dit dit dit. I got it a lot when I was up in Yosemite this summer slowly chugging up the crazy unpaved roads where I worked. Second gear made it really obvious, and it seems to occur between 1200 and 2000 rpm (I may just lose it to engine noise after that point)

So... What are Hushers? Valve Seats?

Hushers are molded rubber pieces that fit around the valve stem and contact the underside of the cam follower (lifter) In theory they are supposed to provide a cushion before the follower makes contact with the valve stem. Zero lash, sort of?

The get brittle over time and may fracture but will not cause any damage. I installed one set and could not notice any improvement so far as noise reduction.

If you install them I suggest adjusting the valves first then R and R the cam and replace the hushers since they make it difficult to get a good reading on the clearance.

Probably not worth the effort IMO.

Yeah, most of the noise on my 780 is piston slap - I wouldn't hear valve noise over that racket... Are you sure it's valves, not piston slap?
