brake pads? 900

Time to replace and bit overwhelmed by selections available? I do not care about price, only No dust, No squeeling. What is best brand and material on market for me right now?

    Volvo is best for floating calipers since they have the anti-squeal shim riveted to the pad. No or less dust - no such thing. What matters is fade problems and stopping ability. Calipers that use pins to retain pads use pbr metal master for excellent stopping and reduced fade over the deluxe version. Grease all sliding surfaces including the pins.

    PBR pads... no shims required.

    Just coat the back with anti-sqeal and let it harden up before installing them.

    No dust.. grab way better than the original Volvo pads. At least a 20% improvement.

    The whole shim mystery is really just that... a friggin' mystery. I finally went into the dealer and had them pull up the charts on the 1995 940 T front brakes. Showed some weird assed 'bat wing' shims that I've only seen once on the Brickboard.

    But in fact I've been driving mine for 2 years without any shims... and not a squeal once.

    There may be better pads than PBR/Axxis "DeLuxe" but I have been very satisfied with them. As dustless as you can get. I just changed what could have been the original rear pads with 138,000miles.

    When the shims are thicker than the pads, its time to put in new pads. No metal has ever touched the rotors on my volvos, yet.

    Can't disagree with PBR/Axxis, they are good pads. but, in my experience, I prefer Textar (FCP Groton); they are quiet and seem to grab immediately, shortening the braking distance.

    The reason Auto Zone, etc..give lifetime warranty on their pads is because you will spend the rest of your life changing them out.

      They say to get the dealership ones 900

      That NPR show "Car Talk" with the two brothers says to get the Volvo pads. They are the right density and softness to stop a volvo. The squealing problem depends on you. You need to bed the pads into the calipers with rubbery goo which stifles vibration that results in squealing

        Click and Clack will tell the dealer, because in Boston you need the shims that come with the pads or your brakes will squeak. PBR are ok, but if you live anywhere where they use salt on the roads, get the Volvo pads. You won't have to do the job again for quite some time. Make sure the pins are sliding properly too. Very important on a floating caliper.
