82 Turbo has no power above 3k rpm 200 1982

I've noticed lately that my 242 turbo has no power above 3k rpm. Pulls well at the low end, howver can barely make it over 65 or 70 MPH. Turbo guage absolutely goes no further than 1/8 of an inch into the 2nd area (Yellow) no matter how many RPM.

Car has the 3 spd auto tranny. If i punch it, the rpms shoot up to 4500 as it downshifts, then settle at 3k @ 75mph in 3rd.

Could the cat be clogged?

Any ideas?

    Sounds like your trans is ok, those are about the same speeds mine makes in 3rd/OD (you probably have OD as well). Have an intercooler? The cars without them are pretty gutless uphill in a headwind.

    Check for leak on the turbo plumbing under positive pressure, or other anomalies like cracked exhaust manifold, turbine housing, or wastegate problem. The lack of boost indicates a problem here somewhere.

    To check for a clogged cat, remove the little plug just after the turbo on the downpipe. It will be pretty loud but you'll be able to tell right off if theres a marked improvement.
