Still missing windshield and hood trim, but it's getting close. I think it looks pretty good for a Volvo!
Hope the link works:

What do you mean "...for a Volvo"...?
I would love to find those seat covers. Or the orange striped ones.

One note about the seat covers. I bought them from a place called örebro agenturaffär in Sweden. Forgot the price, but the complete set was over $300 including shipping. I don't know if he's got the orange colored, though. The covers came wrapped in plastic with Volvo logo's on them, so I believe they are OEM.

"For a Volvo" was somewhat tongue-in-cheek. I like the car but in terms of lines I'd guess the 140 was the model that started the "brick" era. Since I've had two Volvo's in my younger days ('71 142 and '75 242) this '74 was sort of an obvious choice, although I've always liked the looks of the 1800. You can't get a rust-free 1800 for $840 though.

George, I started working for GE a couple of months ago. They have a good size plant in Greenville, upstate SC. Simpsonville is about 20 minutes away.

Do you ever get up to Asheville? Need a spare manifold-to-front-muffler
pipe? It's a used pipe off a FI 140. Over agressive muffler shops can
crack the pipes up near the manifold.

Joe, no I haven't been to Asheville since I moved here. I did buy that same header pipe for my car. I bought it from Voluparts in Atlanta. What place in Asheville were you going to buy from? I'm still looking for a reasonably priced 74-75 B20F and an M41.

Don't have my 140 any longer. The pipe is the only 140 part I
have left. I hate to take any Volvo parts to the dump. Speedy's
junkyard in Asheville has some 240's, but I doubt they have
any 140's. Haven't looked for 140 parts lately. Have you seen
this page of Volvo stuff? They offer an adapter to fit a Mustang
T5 behind a B20.

I've had a 72 144, a 73 142, and a 73 144 in the past. You can't beat 'em. (Believe me, I tried.)

It sure looks like a nice car! Good to know that it has found a good home.
It brings back memories too: I used to drive the 1973 245 a lot during the summers 1974-79, as I worked for the Road Dept. during the long university vacations when I was a student. Erm, that was also the car I learned four-wheel drifting with...
Also, my parents had a 1974 242 from 1974 to 1987 (when they bought the 240 I'm currently driving). Judging from the wheels, your's a De Luxe, right? My parents' was a Luxe, here is a picture of it (BW, the color was burgundy red):

Hmm. interesting. I thought the 74 came with the De Luxe and Grand Luxe (the luxury edition with sunroof, etc), but did not know they had the Luxe model. Looking at the wheels in the picture, it has the pre 71 wheels, but oddly enough, look like it got wipers for the headlamps. Might be a specially ordered model, maybe.

I compliment your vision! But it's a "trick picture", kind of: What I didn't say, is that this is a car for the Norwegian market. The two-door Luxe was the most basic 140-model this year. The difference to the De Luxe was not big, for the 1974 model year all I can think of is the wheels, the automatic seat heaters in the DL, and the interior (L only came in black). And the badge, of course. But all models had the safety features like headlamp wipers and rear seatbelts. If you wanted fuel injection, you had to get the Grand Luxe, the Luxe and the De Luxe both came with the B20A carb'ed engines.
Regards,
Erling.

Awesome! That's how my 144 looked like in 1974 (not that I remember, I was barely 1 at that time, but from the pictures in our family albums. It was originally (Glacier?) White, but its now Navy Metallic Blue. I guess I should post some pictures myself.
One question..how did you get the chrome hubcaps to shine like that? The interior is just the same, except that I noticed you have the shorter gas pedal. Mine goes all the way to the floor. Also your's is a fuel injected model. That buldge below the parking lamps/headlight switch is where the choke control is mounted on mine. Does yours come with factory air?
You got one classic model there. I did not see too many 74 144's around during my days in the USA. More 73s.

Yes, I found out the white color had at least three different names during the years. In 74 they called it California white, but I believe Glacier white is identical but the name was used later, maybe in the '80s. They also called it Castaic white which is identical.
I bought the car on ebay and it took a while before I found the "features" I wanted: four door, stick shift and factory air. The A/C doesn't work, but all the parts are there. I need to replace the compressor, hoses and filter. Regarding the chrome hubcaps. My car came with the right hubcaps (in the trunk) but they were pretty worn. I just happened to find these on ebay so I bought them. The car also had 240 wheels when I bought it, these 140 wheels came from a guy in Sacramento. I had them sandblasted and powdercoated. Couldn't have done this restoration without ebay and IPD's classifieds!

I guess you are right, they called it Glacier white in the 1980s. My dad had the car repainted in 1980 and he got the paint from the Volvo dealer. I found the can years later in the storage room, and it was labelled 'Volvo Glacier White'. I think he put a scratch on it when he backed into the mail box...
Since you are going to replace the A/C compressor, my suggestion would be to get a Sanden unit. Much less power sapping, and cooler, especially in stop and go traffic. You might also want to add an electric fan in front of the A/C condensor to keep the A/C cool during idle and in stop and go traffic. You can get one from the boneyard, from a late model 240 or 740. T
Good luck with your car. I am sure it will provide you years of driving enjoyment and excitement. I still look forward to driving mine even after all these years.
