Not that it's a big concern in my neighborhood, but I can;t for the life of me figure out how to lock/unlock the doors on this 1800E w/o using the key on the outside of the car. Was this the ultimate anti-lockout solution by volvo...?

    Yeah, you push the inside handle forward to lock it. So pull it back to open, and then before you close it, push it forward again.

    The smaller key works the doors, the trunk, and the fuel filler door.

        Yes, thanks to Alfredo Salazar from Concepcion (Chile, Southamerica) you can pick the 1966 121/122 owners manual ("instruction book") on:
        http://web2.volvo122s.cl/pdf/121-122S-1966_ManualUsuario.pdf
        (don´t worry, it is on english, not spanish).

        Manuals from other years are available on the english volvo club, but access are restricted only for club members :-(

    On a 72 ES, move the door handle forward to lock and back to open the door. I imagine the E is the same. --guri r

    the 1800 interior door handles are meant to unlatch the doors when moved in one direction, and lock the doors when moved in the other direction. Unfortunately I can't remember whether it is forward or rearward for locking, but it is simply the opposite direction to that which you are using to open the door.
