seeing through the fog 200 1992

hey guys,

The side view mirror defogger on my 92 is not working, the light in the switch works, but the fog remains. Any ideas on the possible cause? Is there a relay in the switch or hiding in the dash? fuses all seemed good.

Thanks for the help

Wiring to the doors got fatigued by 170k miles of opening and closing, like the tailgate wiring is wont to do? Check for power at the mirrors, and then go from there. There's probably a relay somewhere since it's unlikely that Volvo made the switch carry the full load for a heating circuit, and, if the mirror circuit is anything like the rear defrost, there's a timer on the circuit. If the switch is momentary-contact like the rear def. (springs back after being pressed) then there's definitely a relay in there.

Good luck:
-b.

pop out the mirror and check the wires that connect to the heater element on the mirror. Corrosion or breakage may be the cuprit since (I am assuming) the other side works fine.

Thanks, ill check that out, but both sides are not working. I guess they could both be broken!
