removing door lock actuators 900 1993

I'm in the process of buying door lock actuators (and linkages?), so I can fit one to my driver's door and have remote locking. The seller can't seem to figure out how to remove them from the donor car (93 940 wagon).

According to the FAQ, "The 900 series uses a totally different lock motor system than the 700 series: the 900 motor is not "L" shaped and is directly connected to the lock and the knob. There is no linkage arm."

Presumably, the seller is having problems because the actuator is directly connected, hence not too accessible up near the lock and knob. Does anyone have detailed instructions for removing the actuators on 940s?

The FAQ describes using 700 series parts for a 900 series driver's door. Exactly what 900 series parts are best suited to refit a 900 series driver's door? Is it best to take parts from the rear door on the driver's side, or from the passenger side front door? Is there only an actuator involved, as the FAQ states, or are there linkage parts that are needed too?

some parts can be taken from the front passenger door. lock actuators themselves are the same on all doors. the problem is how to put the actuator in the drivers door without disturbing the existing central locking main switch which already stands in drivers door. i suppose the best way is to have both front doors with the older style central locking for scraping and the best solution can be arranged. too difficult for me tell you all by text message. but it is not difficult to do, if you have those i mentioned...

Have you worked on 940s/960s in particular? Can you confirm what the two details the FAQ states?:

1) "The 900 series uses a totally different lock motor system than the 700 series: the 900 motor is not "L" shaped"

2) "(motor) is directly connected to the lock and the knob. There is no linkage arm."

On cars that have remote locks factory installed (ie. include a driver's door actuator), presumably there may be one answer re: linkages that applies to the driver's door, and another answer that applies to the other three. Can you confirm whether the linkage implementation for a driver's door actuator is the same as for the passenger's door?

The person pulling actuators/linkages for me can't figure out how to remove anything, although I'm not sure which door he was referring to (I'm assuming he might have been confused when trying to find and actuator from the driver's door, when there wasn't one). Do you have any pointers on how to remove the "other three doors" actuators and linkages in a 900? This guy is apparantly suggesting it's not obvious.

Hi!
You can find removal of door lock motors (actuators) procedure in "Volvo 940" Haynes (UK edition). You have to remove interior panel from the door first.
Two screws under the catch, glass guide screw near the lock button, then the catch. Under the catch there is another srew - remove it. Now you have to remove the glass rear guide. Disconnect the actuator and take of handle operating levers. You are done!

I did remote locking on my 940 92', but I used older type of actuator, the "L" shaped, with all the linkage from passanger door. The problem was that I had to bend it the other way ( by symetry to passanger door).

Any other question? e-mail me, I did some drawings of the linkage before installing it, if you will go with "L" actuator I can send it to you. Mgarageu can be right with the problem about disturbing the existing central locking main switch if you go with "not L" shaped actuator.

Good luck!

Your pointing out the coverage in Haynes was my best clue yet. Silly me; I have this manual sitting on the shelf, and never thought to look at it.

So, you used an older L-shaped actuator - from a 700? or a 200? (according to the FAQ, these 2 are different). I take it then that your passenger linkage was from the same vintage of car?

Do you know if it's even possible to install a 940 passenger door actuator into a driver's door? (I take it a 900 series actuator for a driver's door must be a special type, in order to preserve the function where the plunger/lock cylinder triggers the other doors). Which years/models ever had driver's door actuators anyway?

If I've got it all straight, then I guess the only realistic options are:
1) find the special 900 series driver's door actuator from a car already fitted for remote locks (ie. an actuator assembly that includes the switch output function to drive the other doors)
2) use a 700/200 series actuator from a passenger side front door, with its linkage hooked up to the existing driver's door switch.

central locking switch in drivers door stands in the same position as the actuator in other doors. i have not seen 5-wire 900-series actuator (which already has switch inside). those for DIY exist, but not direct fit to locks. 900 series actuators serve less time, not so reliable as the older L-shape ones.

I took my actuator with the linkage from 740 or 760 passanger door ( hard to say precisely since I dealt with a door already taken out of a car ). The "L" shaped actuator, the lever and linkage is perfect fit since 700 and 900 use the very same door, all the holes are already in place. The only problem is that you have to switch the linkage by symetry which is easy with short rod and lever but not so with long rod- you have to bend it the opposite way. Be careful it brakes easly (ask me how I know), and then yours wife knitting needle nr 3 1/2 mm comes handy. If you can find only the "L" actuator I can send you my precise drawings of linkage and lever.
