Removing rear 4' speakers...'91 245 200 1991

Folks,
It seems though I have to drill out the rivet (I think that what they are...not sure...) that holds those speakers to the doors to remove the speakers... Any other easier ways or suggestions? Thanks!

I used a small sharp cold chisel to cut the heads off the rivets-- they are very soft.

Drilling is also a good option.

    Good luck!

They are rivets and drilling them out would be the way to go.

Hi. Is this a station wagon? I just deactivated my rear speakers because they are mounted too low in the door to be effective. I bought 2 6"x9" 3way speakers and mounted them in the rear side panels without too much trouble. The right one fits into the panel just in front of where the tail light cavity is. Just remove the panel. I glued an 1/8" piece of backer board on the rear for rigidity. Cut an oval with a jigsaw and mount the speaker. You can find the speaker wires at the bottom of the roof centerpost. Splice them and run to new speakers. Put the panel back. The cover to the wheel well holds it firmly in place. Same proceedure on the left side, except you need to be careful of placement so the speaker magnet does not touch the spare tire. Great results.

Would love to see pictures of your installation. I am getting ready to swap out my rear speakers too on my 90 245. I have thought about creating a box with speakers etc. hooked up with a quick connect system so that I can pull it out when hauling stuff.

        jdl,
it sounds like a great idea and I definitely keep that in mind. Now, do you have any suggestions for replacement front 5.25" speakers? I know it seems like there were few talks in the past here at the BB but thought you might have different idea? Thanks
