If the outer housing is OK, you can go to any good parts store and buy a universal inner cable kit.

The cable will be too long, so you'll need to cut it to length.

The kits comes with a bottom end square fitting that goes into the transmission, and a tool to swage (compress) it onto the cut end of the new cable. All you need to do is supply a hammer.

It should cost about $9 and installation should be about 10 minutes.

Don't forget to lube the new cable.

I see your P1800 is fairly old, and these cables do wear out after a while.

Did all of your odometers work right before the cable broke? The most common reason for a broken cable is a broken or worn gear in the odometer which puts tremendous pressure on the cable, causing it to break before its time...

If everything was working OK (maybe the speedo needle was jumping around - that's a sign of a cable getting ready to break) you should be able to fix this yourself for a few dollars and a little time.

I have done this job on several cars - all I could afford for many years during my USAF career were old junk cars - and I just put a new one into my PV544 last week.
