Problems with locks and battery drain 200

Hi, I have an 1988 240DL and have recently had problems with my battery dying as a result of the automatic locking system getting jammed and draining the battery while the car sits. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this. My impulse is to simply disconnect the power to the system and manually lock and unlock the doors from this point forward. Thanks for any advice.

Check the relays (typically behind the center vents) ... I've dealt with one that shorted out before.

One of the 2 switches (key, knob) is probably shorting.

Pull driver's side door panel. Unplug connector that branches to both switches. Use multimeter to check for continuity between blk and red/grn even though switches not activated.

If yes, use pin into wires to trace to which switch is the problem. Can disable switch by eg. cutting wire so that good switch is still operational. Or leave connector unplugged if don't need power locks.

Almost certainly the switch around the lock cylinder sticking, or the insulation on the wires has biodegraded at/near that switch.

I had this problem. It was the barrel-switch in line with the pop up knob on the driver's door. When its internal spring gets weak it contacts by itself.
It is impossible to fix, you just need a new one.
As a sort of semi-repair you can wrap coloured plastic tape around the knob to create a bit more friction in the door capping.
