Quality of FCPgroton.com's non-OEM turbo air intake hose (92-95)? 900 1992

Hello all:

I have been chasing an idle drop/stall after coming off boost and down to idle on my '92 945. This afternoon, I pulled the intake hose (AMM to turbo) and discovered that it was rotten near where the big vacuum line/sensor sits.

This hose is really expensive ($145 at FCPgroton.com), but they have an MTC hose for $75. Is anybody out there running one of these hoses? If so, what were your impressions regarding quality and fit?

I'd appreciate your input as I would like to place my order this week, since it takes time to get things here...

I usually keep an eye out for those at the junkyard. I'll let you know if I find one.

      Hello:

I would definitely appreciate it-- I've been through the local pick-and-pull and there isn't a turbo hose to be found unless it has obvious holes in it!

      Thanks!

Can you hang in there until I can find another. Just sent three of them to Calgary. The Mitsu hose with the electrical do-dad, is, I think, the same as the hose w/o the do-dad. I think you can fit your do-dad to the regular hose? Good grief, I see why the guy/gal bought them all at that retail price! The hoses were languishing at $20 on Ebay, as though not needed by anyone.

      Hello Bob:

Yes, I think I can hang in there for a while if there's a chance you can source one! This Volvo part is 3514480, according to the FCPgroton.com page.

There is a pic on their site-- the third intake hose from the top of the section:

      http://www.fcpgroton.com/volvo700900turbo.htm

This part seems to fit 92-95 for sure, although they have it listed for 90-95.

I don't know about fitting the electrical/breather fitting to a different hose-- there is a circular raised portion of the hose that holds this device. It is rotting out at the base of this circular region. If you can find a good throttle body elbow for the same car, I could use that too.

Looking at those hoses makes me realize I am in the wrong line of work-- the mark-up on the turbo hoses is astounding! The longevity of these parts is disappointing too-- the PO replaced this hose within the last 5 years, if memory serves...

Let me know what you can find-- I certainly appreciate it!

        Herb-
I have found them in the past, though you are probably right that one can't substitute for the other. I thought that when I inspected my 780 hose (with electronic insert) that it looked suspiciously like the hose w/o. It IS harder to find the newer hose, let me see if I can get another one.

I'd duct tape and zip tie the old OEM hose before spending any $$ for a MTC one. The quality isn't that great ... I doubt it'll last as long as an OEM hose.

      Hello Paulii:

How was the fit on those parts? Did you have to do much in the way of fitting to make them work? I can't imagine what the Canadian dealer network will want for the part, given that the dealer here gets $27 for an intake manifold gasket!

Given that the part is half what FCPgroton.com gets for their OEM hose, it might be worth a gamble. At this point I have already replaced the elbows at the intercooler and it looks like I need the throttle body as well as the intake hose.

These turbos can be expensive-- I had a conversation with my insurance agent today regarding my 945t versus my 245-- both 1992 models. I pay nearly as much for the turbo with just liability and emerg road service as I do for the 245 with liability, collision, comprehensive, glass, etc.

I will have a look through the archives for aftermarket turbo hoses... Thanks for the reply!

Herb, I've never bought one but the complaints I've seen are due to improper fit.
Having said that I'm sure Nick @ FCP sells a heap of these aftermarket hoses ... I'd be inclined to give him a call and ask him about quality.

Do a search here and you'll find some other opinions.
