Kgrind Vs. ipd 7001cam for my B30 140-160

I am currently compareing cams for my new NA engine I am building, I am raising compresion to 10:5 and installing MS. I am also doing .40 pistons and 38.5mm exhaust valves, roller rocker from KG, port and polish for the head, exhaust header and stock 410 tranny. What is everyone's opinion on which cam will work best. The engine is a 75.

Thanks,
Tim

Both those are about the same, if you are going to use Megasquirt you could use a lot bigger cam than those two. Don't do anything to the intake port, they flow rather well standard & you are more likely to loose flow.

Still using D-jet?
BTW the designation for the street perf cam for the B30 is 7002.
Doubt if they can furnish one though.
I've got one in my 69 164 and like it pretty well.
But maybe you should ask KGTrimning....

The company is "Oregon Cam Grinding" They made the cam for ipd back in the day and still have the specs.
What was a major difference you noticed? What kind of engine work did you do when you put in the ipd cam?

Tim

In both cases I had smoothed the ports and eliminated humps and bumps in the
intake passages. I'm using the standard pipefitter's nightmare combined
manifold with secondary butterflies and shafts removed, holes plugged.
F head with about 0.080"/2mm off, standard thin headgasket. HIF6 carbs.

You gotta remember that most cams you take out of these are in bad shape on
several lobes, and mine were no exception.

From idle to about 2000 rpm there was little or no difference but from about
2500 up till it gets scary the torque was impressively greater. Not quite to
the point of smoking the tires but if there is loose grit, sand or gravel on
the pavement it will easily break traction, also if it is damp or dusty.
I imagine that with FI the high end torque would be even better.

Remember that at least for a Volvo this is a pretty heavy car. Also remember
that the stock cam for a B30 is the C grind, which is moderate by any standards.

I also have the 3.31 rear end that was standard in 1969. This makes the OD
I installed somewhat less useful below about 75 mph. On the other hand it
does delay the shift points quite a bit and makes 3rd gear a 4.33 ratio, which
is nice.

MS is megasquirt, so he'll be using that instead of Djet. Did the 75 b30s still have Djet? I know the b20s changed over to Kjet in 74... But yeah, no advice on the cams, sorry!

The B30 FI was D-jet all the way to the end. Never did make a CIS B30.
But you could probably do it with B20 and B27-B28 components.
(Not sure why anyone would want to though.)
