Door release lubing 200

I am having a sticking problem with my release on the driver's door of my '88 wagon. Can I pull something apart and lube the mechanisms? One other post I put up about this a reply was that this is a heavy door with big parts and there is really no lubing you can do to it. I don't buy that, anyone else? It is sticking from inside and outside door releases. TIA!

Before you do anything else, just spray a bit of WD-40 in the latch. The original grease in there is probably quite solid by now, and probably just needs a little softening up. If that doesn't do it, then take off the latch (no need to take off the door panel), pry off the plastic cover, clean out the old grease, and put in some new. Yes the doors are heavy, but quite well mounted -- unless something drastic has happened, you shouldn't have to mess with that!

It is certainly possible to lubricate everything. Its easiest to do the most complete job with the door panel off but you can still do a reasonable job without doing this. The door latch mechanism comes off with 2 torx heads. Once off you gain access to the moving parts on the inside of the mechanism. I use regular motor oil in a squirter can for most everything. With the door handle lifted up you can also squirt some white lithium grease into the slots.

It is a heavy door with heavy parts so lube will help, but only once the heavy sagging door is readjusted so it aligns with the latch. Lift the door from its open edge and feel just how heavy it is noting how much it moves. The upper hinge may be quite worn from supporting the heavy door with its heavy safety parts. Look at the latch pin for wear on the top showing how it has sagged. To readjust the door you must pull out the fuse panel and reach behind the tarpaper to find the hinge bolts. It is a really heavy door with heavy parts.
