Desperate. CR 814 cd in pinout. 900 1993

Hi! I recently got an Alpine Mbus CD Changer for my CR-814 radio, however I cannot get a VOLALP adapter as I live in Colombia, and cannot find any US stores with this adaptor in stock... I already bought an Alpine CD changer cable and an 8pin mini din cable which fits on the CD changer port on the radio. How do I connect the different pins? I already have the pinout for the Mbus cable (coherent with wire's colors), and a SC-series headunit pinout, but it didn't work. I would much appreciate if anyone had a CR 814 CD in pinout that could share with me. The headunit's connector has two rows of 3 pins, and a row of 2 pins... Your help is highly appreciated!

Regards;

Here's the one I had -

This, however, is the SC changer pinout. I'll keep looking for the CR one.

Hi! That´s the pinout I have and tried, however the radio displays ´EEE´ when I press the CD button. Do you think the pinouts are different for the SC and CR series? The connectors are the same, but I think the CR uses the VOLALP, while the SC uses the VOLIL adapters, so there must be a difference... I am hoping you have the info on the CR814! Thank you very much for your time!!! Looking forward (again) with news from you...

Two questions - 1) are you sure the changer works? 2) I'm sure you've thought of this, but might you have wired the DIN according to how the diagram faces you? Remember the plug you insert in the head unit should be wired as a mirror image of that pinout diagram we've got, because the diagram applies to the head unit plug (female). I got this wrong the first time I tried wiring Volvo amps for an aftermarket head unit, easy mistake to make.

Hi! Indeed I was making this mistake when I was first mapping each wire color with the mini DIN pins using an ohmeter, but luckily realized this before soldering anything... If you are certain that this diagram should work with the CR 814, I am going to tear my cable apart and do it again from scratch, maybe some soldering joint is broken, or I got the colors mixed up... I have no idea if the changer works, but I think it does, and the radio shouldn't read EEE right when I press the CD button, as if nothing was connected. Thanks again...

Well I can't say with certainty that's the right diagram, but I thought it was. I've searched to no avail for a diagram of the Volalp pin-in/pin-out. If all else fails email me offline before this coming weekend and I'll try to pull my OEM changer from the 780 when I'm up to New Brunswick, perhaps I can sort out the pinout from that to at least confirm we've got the right diagram.

Maybe someone with a manual has this pinout info? Someone who has opened a VOLALP (in pictures, it looks just like a cable, no electronics) may have the pin-to-pin diagram, or maybe someone with a spare VOLALP can sell it cheap to me???

Thanks!

I thought the Alpine M-bus was plug & play to the CR-814... seems I'm wrong about this? I've got a couple pinout diagram scans on my computer at home, I'll take a look this evening and send them to you if they're applicable to what you're trying.

CJ, I would really appreciate if you could post/send me any info! My email is jgcbaiz@gmail.com in case you want to send the scans directly. The mbus is supposed to be plug and play in the sense that it doesn't require any data/protocol translation, but it is not a direct fit. Volvo made Alpine change the pin order when they made the headunit. The Alpine changer cable has a big DIN connector, while the radio has a mini din connector. My model doesn't have a prewired CD changer cable, so I'm doing this from scratch. An easy solution would have been the VOLALP, but I can't get one... Also, the radio doesn't provide +12V for the changer, which needs to be 'injected' through the cable... Looking forward to your post!

JGC
