Relay - unknown 900

I have a five pin/prong volvo relay with pin # 30, 85, 86 & 87. Part no. 150290, or 89 9760 or 1 235 893.

It was off a 240 (1990), what relay function is it for and is it good for a 94 940? Are some of these relays (same P/N) used in various locations?

Can the 1990 240 fuel pump relay be used in a 1994 940?

Thanks to all in advance.

Relay - unknown 900

Dear gen940,

Good p.m. and may this find you well. Part No. 1 235 893 is a window control relay. As you noted, it is for a 240 series car. I do not believe it will work in a 940 series car.

Generally, later model 740 (post-1989) relays will fit in a 940. Few, if any 240 relays will fit in a 940 series car.

In the 240 series cars, relays were widely dispersed. In the 940 series cars, almost all relays were put on the combined fuse/relay block, behind the front center console (behind the ashtray and storage bin).

This upgrade likely is the reason relays for 240 series cars won't work in 940 series cars.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

spook
