DIY winch

My 'friend' got my 240 stuck in the mud out on a trail nearby, and we can either push it out or I was considering a homemade winch/pulley system. What are the size of cables and stuff that I'd need to do this? Is it feasible with stuff from Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart, Winn-Dixie, etc?

Are you thinking of attaching the rope/cable to the rear (or front?) tow loop and then winching using a nearby tree as an anchor?

Is it impossible to get another vehicle near enough to pull the 240 out?

You will need some pretty heavy duty stuff. Rope - 3/4 inch polypropylene?

Cable - very hard to work with.

Winch - needed power may be far out from budget.

Check at Harbor Freight, if possible.

    Good Luck,
    Bob

I agree, harbor freight is about the best cheap tool store I've ever seen.

Well we got the car out. We had 4 pushing and 1 driving. As it was getting a 50 yards or so away it started jumping up and down pretty good on some bumps, then it started making exhaust noises and so my friend stopped. We decided nothing was imminently wrong and started pushing again.

      It was a good time.
      Nathan
