You might want to pull the seats out again and see where you might have pinched a wire. Chasing down a short can be a difficult job. If you know where to look (under the seat) you could be way ahead of the game.
These small lights are powered from the fuse, then through the Bulb Failure Warning Relay (BFWR). Located at far left end of dash, the lowest part, above the driver's lap. Tucked in above the lower lip of the dash. Red-orange can, about 2.5 inches diameter and length. From the BFWR, power runs out to the lights themselves.
You definitely need a wiring diagram.
There's one in Haynes but it's not ideal. Mislabeled as "Turn Signal and Hazard Lights"! The "Typical 1984 and later" tag on the diagram is not very encouraging. But from working on my headlights from a similarly "precise" diagram in Haynes, I'd say it probably would be helpful and essentially correct if not totally accurate.
Maybe the Bentley book has a good diagram. I've also heard of a "green book" that has them.
Get a look at Haynes if you can't get anything else.
Power goes out of the 2 fuses into the bulb failure warning relay (BFWR). Then out to the rear taillights. That's the typical wiring for the BFWR: from switch or control relay into the BFWR (sometimes via a fuse or two), then two wires going out from BFWR to the lights themselves.
The Haynes shows power to front parking lights going out direct from the fuses; however I kind of expect that by 1990 they had the front small lights running through the BFWR also. Power to the license plate lights goes straight to the bulbs, not through the BFWR.
There's a current thread re. "How come my headlights don't turn off automagically" where lucid explains some of the wiring to the small lights. Have a look:
