Crap from dash vents 900 1993

Just noticed some flecks of foam "insulation"(?) peeking out of the left vent.

I'm sure there have been posts on this, but I'm not coming up with the right words to search on it. For example, no hits at all on foam or vents.

Crap from dash vents 900 1993

The 1993 started to blow out the sticky crap almost two years ago so I tried to keep the fan on low until I was able to blow out the side vents one at a time, vent pointing as far toward the wide open door as possible, all other vents closed, fan on high, at 75 MPH. Have a popsicle stick handy to help clear the vent slots. As Herb said, this stuff seams to melt into cloth and clothing. BTW, the car was really parked.

Crap from dash vents 900 1993

    Hello Bruce:

Yes, it is just degraded foam "insulation" from the joints in the HVAC system that gets blown out. Nasty stuff if it gets rubbed into white shirts (it seems to have an oily consistency sometimes). Very common in 700/900 vehicles.

Yup, I've seen this stuff blow out of more than one 740 or 960 dash... I think it grows in there.

Nothing to worry about, except for the white shirt thing of course.
Vents can be removed and vacuumed out if need be.
