Where do these speakers go? 200

"These speakers do not mount in the doors; they mount to an area above the wheel well."

Do these speakers mount in that triangular area between the rear door sill and the rear seat? Could they be installed in both sedans and wagons, or are they specific to one type of car? How do you run the wires to them? Were these installed at the factory (does anyone else have them installed)? Is this position preferable, in terms of acoustics?

Edit--I realized they must go in wagons. I just looked at the back (and front) seat of my sedan and I can't figure out any way that that panel would fit in the car.

More specifically, I think they are for pre-1986 245's. 1986 and newer have a plastic moulding that goes up the entire pillar to the headliner. Not to say they wouldn't fit 1986 or new because there is a hole in the pillar for a speaker but as I recall it was 3.5 inches. I had a heck of a time getting 4" Infinity's in that space in my 1988 245. As far as mounting speakers in boxes behind the 245 seat, I purchased boxes covered with black felt-like material, cut out as required and put 6" x 9" speakers in them for my son's 1979 245. Wiring ran under door sills. I don't think the sound was any better than the 4" in the pillar in my 1988 and the boxes were always in the way of cargo etc. I added connector plugs and that helped. But there is no need to spend $400 unless you want something exotic with a 10" -12" sub-woofer and separate amp. a generational thing I am sure...

They go here ...

They don't thump, if that's what you are after. They are only 4" after all. But they sound allright to me as an addition to the front door speakers.

Indeed, they are wagon-specific speaker.

After '78 or so, the only "factory" speakers were the front door units. Any other speaker was dealer-installed.

These speakers shown came in a kit, which included wiring. If you got an AM-FM, your dealer would also have to install a fader kit as well.

I've installed these speakers. Problem is, they're pretty crappy. Sadly, they are also pretty shallow, and there isn't much room behind the panel in terms of installing aftermarket 4's in these panels.

Question where would you put speakers in a 245? Had a guy tell me he could put them in boxes in the back by the wheel wells for the tune of 400 clams! (Infinity speakers) also, thats assuming theres wiring there! I think this is a lot. Just got a new pioneer stereo Wow what a difference. factory speakers sound brand new!! thanks for any info!
