960 purchase advise 900

Hello All:

I have located a 960 with only 49 k on it. What I look for. What maintenance should I do right away? I am used to 240s and my wife's present V70 2000 model.

Thanks
Gene

    Gene,

What year 960? The 95 on had the improved T-belt which changes out every 70K.
That I would change if it's due or there is no record of when it was changed last. I bought a 96 960 for my daughter last summer and changed the T-belt, tensioner/idler pulleys, air, oil, fuel filter, spark plugs, flushed the tranny, filled with Mobile 1 ATF both tranny and P/S, fresh brake fluid, engine coolant,M1 synthetic engine oil, new brake rotors and pads all around. Those are some areas I attended to, the T-belt being the most critical. This is the first 960 in our family ... everyone has be driving 240/740/940 Bricks until now. My daughter loves her 960 and it's run problem free for her over the last eights months. So far so good.
49 K is very low miles ... while that may seem good, the 960 engine doesn't like short trips, causes problems like sticky valves/lifters. So low miles good be worse than a lot of highway miles. There are more 960 issues in the 700/900 FAQ you might want to look at. Good Luck.
