drive line vibration 700 1991

Alone in the car and moving off I do not get a driveline vibration but with four adults there is a slight momentary driveline vibration when moving off.I understand there are many things that could cause this but since it is not that severe what would most likely be the cause?

Take a look at your rear-end suspension bushings... I just replaced all 9 bushings and WOW, what a major difference it made in the driveability of the car. It was cheap and relatively easy and definately worth the effort.

All vibration/clunkiness is now completely gone - it's like a new car again.

Mine does the same thing, and from what I've read it seems that we just have to live with it. I had my U-joints checked along with the transmission and engine mounts. The understanding I have is the change in alignment of the shaft when the car is loaded causes the vibration.

You can shim the center bearing up or down apparently, but I haven't the time to try this unless someone says that going up or down a certain distance made a difference.

Do check your tranny mount while your under there. I'd even reccomend changing it out.

I've been getting a similar thing in my 240- seems to be the exhaust contacting the rear axle, but only when loaded up.

When I'm alone or with one person, I can accelerate as hard as I want with no thumps. Look for a problem with the axle pipe or resonator (front muffler) contacting the axle or trailing arms. It may show evidence of scrapes or dents if it's pronounced.

Good luck!
