Temperature gauge 120-130

Is it possible to repair the capillary tube that feeds the Dash Temperature Gauge? I think I may have broken it on a recent instrument cluster removal/install.

Help?

I'm glad you asked the question, since I also need to do a repair job on a 444 temperature gauge. This was raised a while back and I found this link, telling you how to do it yourself, with a new doner temperature gauge. I think this procedure should work for any mechanical style gauge.

I saw an article , or actually a reader submission, in a German classic car magazine. Remember, the gauges are VDO, made in Germany. It showed how one could solder in a small piece of tubing into the line near the sender, and maybe another one up by the gauge itself. The idea was that you submerged the sender end into a jar of ether(?), and using a syringe, you drew the "juice" up through the capillary tube until it was full. Then you crimped , or soldered off the two little tubes to seal the system. As I said, I only read the reference once, a long time ago, so you are on your own if you want to attempt this. Sounds pretty scary to me, even if it does sound do-able. I imagine that professional instrument shops have a safe set-up to do this, but that would havve to be on a large scale basis. OK, Kids, don't try this at home,...
