Calling lucid

Hi Lucid,
I seem to remember a post from you in the past that dealt with camber problems on a 240 series. If I remember correctly your solution concerned making sure the 3 ball joint mounting bolts to the lower control arm were adjusted in their slots to the furthest outboard position possible. Would you be able to refer me to that post by any chance? I searched the site but found squat.

Thanks,

Dan

Camber -- Ball Joint-to-Control Arm Bolts/Holes 200

Hi Dan,

Not sure I can find the post, but it said to take out all the play in the INBOARD direction (not outboard). This makes for Positive camber.

Keep in mind this was on one car (a '78 245) but the difference in camber (inboard vs outboard) was obvious, just looking at it. And it easily passed the CT inspection with the inboard shift, after failing before.

So that's how I've done it ever since. There is enough slop in those 3 bolt holes to affect the lower end of the strut assembly. And given the normal downward "slope" of the control arms, it somehow seems to me that INBOARD is more "natural".

Good luck,

Camber -- Ball Joint-to-Control Arm Bolts/Holes 200

Thanks for the rapid reply. My problem is excessive wear on the outer tred on the front tires. I am going throuigh this car for my soon to be liscensed daughter. Currently am doing over the front end(new bushings now...all other components were recently renewed except struts) When I put the new tires on it's going for an alignment and that will hopefully take care of the tire wear. We have had this car for some time but has been only used infrequently.

Dan

p.s. this is an '87 240

My problem is excessive wear on the outer tred on the front tires.

Wear on the outer shoulder could be accentuated by pushing the lower end inboard, as I advocate (increasing positive camber). But as I said, that seems like the normal position, and since you will be having it aligned it should be OK.
