Blower issues and Differetial drain plug 200 1990

HI
I have a 1990 volvo 240 DL Manual M47 (201K) . I planned to change my gear oil and differential oil . The drain plug of differential (most probably 1031) has become rounded and it is still frozen :banghead: . I have tried heat ,rattle- PB Blaster - 6point socket etc.
In case I have to change it what is the thread and pitch of that plug and what can be the likely source of that plug .

The blower fan behaves erraticly . At speed 1 and 2 it runs for a while and then dies IF i change the speed back to 3 rd and then again to 2nd it again runs for a while then stops . There is liitle whining sound as well afte a while . What can be the issue . If it is the resistor from where I can source that .
If it is the lubrcation then what is the best way to do it .

Regards
gopesh

I used vise grips and a rubber mallet to remove the differential plug of my 1986 240 when it was too stripped for a socket.

The blower bearings may be dried out. You can try lubricating them with a 20 SAE oil. Drill large holes (so you can see in) in the plastic cowl under about the 2nd to 3rd pop-out (allows for easy access on later oilings) in from the edge. Squirt/spray oil on shaft/bearings. Cover holes with duct tape or plug.

As for the drain plug, although I haven't had that specific problem, when I rounded the edges on my oil pan drain plug I used a pipe wrench to grip it.
Don't have knowledge about thread pitch. Don't toss the old one. Use it to compare to the replacement. Would try the pnp or as a last resort, the dealer. Certainly is more cost-effective than striping the threads on the housing with a wrong plug. Others will have more knowledge about your blower.

Thanks for the suggestions . I will try pipe wrench ( This nut is 13mm .)
I will try to use the old plug Hopefully it does not leak afterall threads should be ok only the head is defaced .

The Blower Bearing :Do I have oil it from the both sides ( driver and passanger side. I do not have any diagrams etc so hopefully I will learn as I open the dash)

Thanks and Regards

Blower issues and Differetial drain plug 200 1990

This weekend I went to replace what was left of the metal battery tray in my 81 242. Between the acid and rust the heads of the 13mm bolts that held it in had been reduced to 3/8" dia. circles. I thought I would have to drill them out and tap the holes, the tray has recesses and there's no way to get anything but a socket on the bolts even in the best of circumstances. Went down to Sears and for 20 bucks got a set of Bolt-Outs. They fit over the head of the bolt and a socket goes over both and you turn w/ a ratchet. I didnt have much hope, but they turned the suckers out like they were brand new and greased. Highly recommended, good luck whatever you do.

I had to finally open the differential housing cover to get the oil out. These 12 or so screws opened easily . Probably it does not drain very well but any way oil change is done. Now the rear end skids sometimes . Is it due to more slippery oil .
Redline MTL is just fine. I have changed that too . I might be a good idea to ty amsoil synthetic Type F .

Thanks for all the help.

Gopesh
