cruise control 200 1992

Hi All,
I wonder if anyone out there may have encountered this problem with their cruise control.
I'm not sure where the trouble is, here's the story. I recently installed factory cruise on my 92 240, all the components installed seamlessly but when I press the button to set the speed it just pulls the accelerator to the floor. Granted it fun to go fast, but I could have achived the same results using a river rock instead of going OEM. My first guess it the control unit, but I imagine it could be getting a false speed signal from somewhere else. I'm just learning as I go. I thought I might through this question out here before I start changing parts.
Keep up the great posts!

This happened to me and I believe the problem is in the speed set button sticking after you push it to set the speed. Try resetting it a few times, mine seemed to be cocked over to one side. After a little use and careful pushing of the button it stopped doing that. Dan

1. Double check that a wire from the speedo loom is connected to one or other arm of the double male connector on the back of the instrument cluster. That's how the speed signal is routed to the cruise control.

2. The '92 (w/ABS) and '93 speedos are electrically different from earlier ones (k number on face of speedo is around 40,000 rather than around 10,000). Might the cruise control module you were sold be compatable only with earlier speedos?

3. Best wishes from a grad of Williams.

Thank you very much for the input, that gives me a couple more directions to go.

Cruise is not specific to that speedo change, same cruise unit for 90-93 model years.

It sounds like the vacuum pump is pulling the bellows without any modulation from the speed signal. I can't be too much help, and you really can't mis-connect the built in wiring system on that cruise, But I suspect your speedo or the cruise brain. Or a bad/bent.loose connector, wire or pin. Vacuum pump is OK if the vacuum line is attached to the black port, right? Pedal switches are easy to test with a puff of air.
