Rough Idle & High Miles 900 1994

Hello,

My 940 is running rough at idle @ 500-600 rpm, It has 203000 miles on it. What should the rpm's be at idle, and how would I go about adjusting it. When I put it in neutral, it tends to run smoother. Also how do I retrieve fault codes? Thanks

I had the same symptoms on my 1993 940. I bought it used with 238k miles, I replaced the alternator, battery, starter, distibutor, head gasket (myself), ignition coil, rpm sensor, exhaust. After all that I still had no start and rough idle. After replacing the plugs/wires, it all went away and I'm at 289k miles and running every strong. Installed NK filter, Toronda device and you can feel the difference. Take care of your baby and it will take care of you.

Hi

I'd check the 700/900 FAQ. There is an amazing wealth of info.

The throttle body would be a good place to start (assuming you've checked plugs, leads and cleaned the distributor cap etc).
