suspension knock S90-V90

Hello brickers,

I've been going absolutely nuts for the the last few weeks. There has been this knock happening every time the car drives over the most minute bump. Last night, I opened the hood and I can here a small knock/pop every time I push down on the front bumper. I crawled underneath and started grabbing/shaking suspension components. The passenger side swaybar link (the thin metal bar that connects the sway bar to the knuckle) makes a popping sound and has about 1/8 inch of play in it. Is this something that I sould tighten up? replace the bushings? replace the link entirely?

Thanks.

    UPDATE S90-V90

I took the car to my mechanic this morning to see if he would help me find the know. It turns out all my control arm bushings are crap. Looks like I have a new hobby.

If the swaybar lnk is good and tight and it still makes noise, I'd recommend replacing with and OE link. Avoid the Scan Tech knock offs....they just don't last as long as the OE.

The torque spec is 36.9 ft./lbs for both bolts.

I agree with the OEM rule. Along with other glitches related to aftermarket bits, I had one aftermarket link last 2 months! Replaced with volvo unit. We'll see how long the contralateral side lasts..

With the V90 front end, I recommend all factory parts it seems to be very different from the older 940/740 setup..

More than likely, the link is worn out and needs to be replaced. The exception would be if you can see the stud is loose at either the strut or the end of the bar. (Unlikly at this late date.)

The life of these things is quite variable in my opinion. My original ones lasted over 60K miles but one of the replacements only lasted 6K. I now keep a spare in the garage as it takes about 10 minutes to put the car on the ramps and change it.

the city has put up a bunch of speed tables around my neighborhood, so every time you go anywhere or come back, you have to traverse these huge bumps. I look forward to replacing all the OEM bushings on my car within the next year or so.

Your swaybar link is loose it sounds to me, they are a bugger to get tight but you should have no problem. You will need a socket and also I think it's a 16mm wrench to hold the back side of the link while tighting it all up.
No big problem just tighter down.

Is there a torque spec for this part? Or is it just a matter of getting it "good and tight"?

There is the specs... I HATE aftermarket stuff now! I bought the "Better German" sway bar links from FP. They now are making noise after 6800mi!?!?!?... The originals lasted until 97k...

        Cheers,
