check engine S90-V90

I've had the check engine light on for a little bit now. The car runs fine but might use fuel faster. I haven't had time to get it scanned. Any ideas? I'm thinking an O2 sensor, the car has about 110 000 miles and as far as I know it has never been replaced. I did have a slight stumble that was caused by a dirty throttle body that was cleaned.

Yeah - do nothing until you get the codes. I went to AutoZone for their free scanning. Get them to print the results. Do not listen to what they recommend.

You can get the CE light from something as trivial as a poorly tightened gas cap!

Good Luck,

Bob

For sure get the codes read and do some diagnostics before replacing any parts. Otherwise you will be spending money to replace perfectly good parts and still have the fault.

Based on my experience the most likely faulted system is the secondary air which could be as simple as a rotted connector hose. Second most likely cause is a vacuum leak some where.

My car lost the secondary O2 sensor at about 85K miles but the primary is still working fine at 134K.

Just to update everyone. The code was intake malfunction and it was caused by a dirty throttle housing. So just remind everyone to keep these clean as it can cost you some money or at least some annoyance!
