Timing Belt Broke, How do I get valves on right sequence with pistons? 700

hi i am no mechanic and was worried when i accidently turned a pulley while changing my b230ft belt ..but i think it takes alot of force to break valves rods etc...my car works great after i changed the timming belt (6 months/ 2000kms )ago...what i did was find the markings on the pulleys and line them up ...remove the no 1 spark plug and i think the piston needs to be at the bottom on a downstroke, but recheck that with a mechanic..daryl from aussieland

The 8 valve head camm can be turned without hitting the pistons. Remove or loosen the plugs to make it easier. Lots of info in the FAQ's.

Done 700

Well I put it back together.
Yes, this is the non-interfearance engine, no valve damage possible.

I put the lower timing mark on, which is the #1 piston at TDC. The top gear when placed on the mark has the #1 and 2 valve closed, every other position has one or the other open. So it looks like it only goes together one way, anyway the way I did it worked. Cheers.

Eric
