windshield rust repair 200 1988

I'm in the process of repairing significant rust damage at the lower edge of the windshield frame. As in, about 6" of the pinch weld was missing (rusted away) on the passenger side :-(.

Things are mostly intact now, with a combination of POR15 and epoxy/fiberglass.

What I'm wondering is: how tight is the tolerance of the install surface for the windshield? I'm planning on having a 93 (new-style) windshield installed, instead of the old-style with frame that I removed.

The surface is pretty close to the thickness it's supposed to be, but does it have to be *exact*? Does anyone know what kind of tolerance the 93 windshield seal can deal with?

Thanks!

Michel

Since you will be applying a layer of urethane or other sealant, you will basically be able to control surface irregularities with the adhesive, so you do not need a Hubble telescope perfect surface. Remember to add the little wedge supports at the bottom edge of the glass so it does not settle to ride on the metal.
