Bypassing Heater Core 700

Dreaded this day. Found antifreeze in the drivers side. So, heater core. Fortunately summer. Looking at bypass till I decide to tear into the dash. I can just disconnect from firewall and add a short piece of pipe to connect the hoses. Or completely remove the hoses/water valve and put one hose on. What's the board think?

Disconnect hoses from heater core at fire wall trying not to damage the exposed heater core nipples. To make a bypass, use a garden variety 1/2" copper plumbing 90 degree elbow as a coupling between the hoses and secure with ring clamps. Read the 700/900 FAQ for tips on dash disassembly to get to the heater core. A devil of a job, but if you have the patience it will save you a ton of bucks in labour costs. Be sure to flush/suction out all anti-freeze from carpets and undermatting. Check rear carepeting as it often gets damp too. Lift carpet and dry thoroughly to prevent floor board rusting. Unless you have a warm, dry environment, consider carefully using heating fans and/or heat lamps to speed drying. Good luck.

there has to be sufficient flow, so use clamps, pipes and/or elbows to make the 'U' connection; bending a hose will restrict the flow undesireably.
