failed new tennessee emissions test high co emissions 700 1990

tested --hc--141---limit220---pass ------tested--co--4.59---limit1.20---failed----co2---9.13% ----------1990 740 non turbo idles, runs and has good power.ckd air filter, fuel injectors, charcoal cannister all ok. other possible causes could be catalytic converter or oxygen sensor. if converter was bad, would not my hc readings be high??? what are the reading for a good o2 sensor?????? if bad is there a universal o2 sensor or factory only o2 sensor. what are part numbers and who to order part from???? what is good price???? by the way the injection system is rex/regina....the testing people say a large number of cars that fail the co test have def. sensors.

I'm sorry I was confusing the CO and NO readings. The 745Ti failed on the NO limits and then when unable to find a vacuum leak I replaced the cat. Here are the numbers:
    1st test HC 80.4 (linit 123)
    CO .36 (limit .69)
    NO 1695 (limit 878) fail
    2nd test HC 19.2
    CO .01
    NO 18.6 PASS

Sorry for the confusion on my part.

    Randy

You can get a pretty good idea of the condition of the O2 sensor by checking it with a volt/ohm meter. It will certainly show if it is dead and perhaps if it is not dead it will show if it is sluggish. I do not know the numbers off of the top of my head perhaps they are in the FAQs (drop down menu under select link at top of page)

How old is the converter and how many miles on the car. I had a 91 745Ti that ran great but failed the CO portion of the test. It passed HC levels. Looks for vacuum leaks that would cause a lean burn and increased CO but found none. Bit the bullet and replaced cat, the numbers were astoundingly better and it easily passed.
