Success, oil leaks vanquished, Jiggle test pasted----Clean your Oil Separation Box 700

Cleaning oil separation box did the trick, crankcase pressure is now negative.
Will running synthetic help to keep it all clean?
Prevoius owner spent alot on getting it fixed (his mechanic gave up after alot of money).

Thanks Bricksters

Hope the picture of the pre-cleanup comes out.

I was unable to find where the message originated from, but I was wondering what and where is the oil seporator box. I am having elevated crank case pressure and oil is free flowing out the properly secured oil filler cap. The cap seems to be making a good seal with the valve cover. Any suggestions? What is the jiggle test?

      Hi,

Check out this link for a picture of the oil seporator box:

      http://www.eeuroparts.com/productdetail.aspx?searchResults=1&code=7322

I replaced one on my 93 240, and it was a job, but not too hard. You really do not need a maunal as you will see what has to come out to get to it. The bolts took some serious dexterity to get at, but with enough socket extensions and u joints, it was not too bad.

As mentioned in a previous post, you need an o ring gasket, it is also worth buying a new flametrap set up with new hoses and an oil cap gasket. Mine were all fried from the hot oil fumes. Forget trying to clean the oil seporator box, as will be filled with a soild mass of burnt in crud.

I have bought quite a bit of stuff from eeuroparts, and they have very good prices, and treated me well.

      Good Luck!

      Cory

it's under the intake manifold. just replace it. you'll have to remove the intake on this motor to be able to access it.

What exactly am I looking for, and what is connected to it? When I remove the snorkle where it connects to the intake manifold, what am I looking for? Am I going to need to purchase a replacement box? This Chilton manual doesn't make any mention of an oil seporation box or clearly show where the EGR valve is. I should have bought the Haines. Please help.

          Look in the FAQ.

You know where to flind the flame trap.
The pipe going to the bottom of the flame trap traqvels down to a block plastic thing which is held on with two (10mm?) bolts to the block, not the head.
This box takes the excess block air/oil mixture and with a couple of baffles tries to remove as much oil as possible. The oil goes into a tube to the bottom of your oil pan (so there is no pressure on this tube, and the top goes to your flame trap.

If the trap and piping on the manifold are clean, and the box is clean, you can take the oil filler off and it will stay down on the engine. If not, the pressure will try to blow it off (jiggle). Try a little trottle while doing this, you may have an issue only at idle.

There is a small oring that seals this box to the head, replace that while your there (34mm id 3mm thick, check the FAQ to make sure, it was right when I ordered the part from FCPgroton)

          Hope this helps.
