Odometer sort of quit working. 200

1990 245dl 209k mi. ??

My odometer is acting funny. The first three number that count ones, ten, and hundred still are functioning but the thousand hasn't moved in awhile. I changed my oil at 209k about two months ago and it hasnt changed.

Can the these numbers still move but the thousand not??
Ive seen the IPD rebuild kit, has anyone installed one?

Any suggestions?

    Theres a tiny plastic gear that connects each odometer wheel to the next higher one. Could be this is jammed up and not engaging or trying to flip the 1000's and not suceeding because a tooth is broken off.

    Replacing the cluster is easier that disassembling the whole thing only to find out you need a gear anyway.
