replacement exhaust 700 1986

Hi everyone,
I haven't posted in a while because my 760T has been wonderful...

But, I lost my tail pipehanger not too long ago, and the exhaust pipe finally broke right in front of the first muffler. I have to say, it seems to have more power now, but it sounds like an airplane.

So, I was thinking of replacing the exhaust system from the cat conv back with a larger diameter pipe and leaving out the first muffler.

Anyone have any thoughts on that? Problems?

Any input is appreciated.

Jim

..following the reply from the previous messager:

I've got '90 740 Turbo Wagon missing the front muffler.
There is just a pipe passing there.
That's the condition I bought it not so long ago.
It drives OK, not that noisy.
(Cannot compare to a 740 vehicle having the front muffler, that's my first Volvo)

Cheers,
Wolandir

I just put a cat back system from Skandix on my Wifes 240. Awesome quality kit and cheap. They have a 740 turbo sport system that goes on my car next. They say that the 740 sport kit is very free flow and that you need the first muffler to keep interior booming down. www.skandix-usa.com

Buy the volvo OEM exhaust kit from SwedishEngineering or Borton Volvo: reasonably priced and of superb quality.

Hi Jim,

It shouldn't cause any problems to leave out the first muffler. It will be a little louder, though. Try FCP Groton for good prices on Starla exhaust stuff. They sell the correct tail pipes and clamps, too.

Good luck,
Dave
