Sunroof grease 200

Hi,
I need to replace a sunroof. The old one got torn out by vandals.
All the various Volvo repair manuals that I have say to only grease the rails and cables with "special Volvo grease".
What type of grease is this? Is there something in the garage that I may be able to use?
Also, any suggestions (do's and don'ts) regarding sunroof replacement are greatly appreciated.

I have never attempted to replace a sunroof before.

This is for my "new" '74 144GL. I am posting in the 240 section because there are not very many 140 series cars with sunroofs out there.

I have no particular suggestion for the type of grease you use, but I wanted to mention that I've never heard of vandals tearing out a sunroof (Volvo or not). Were they stealing your sunroof for use elsewhere, or were they simply using it as an entrance to get to the valuables in your car? Did they leave behind any parts of it?

I use the aerosol lithium grease for the hard to get at parts and for the crank inside the car. For the chain (articualted cable?) for the sunroof i use good ole' bearing grease.

It's thinner than white or lithium grease.... 200

I never had a Volvo with a sunroof, so I never had the need to go buy the Volvo stuff; but I have had two Mercedes with sunroofs, and being a do-it-yourselver I had to go and use the "right" stuff for these finicky cars (I no longer have them).

It turned out that the Mercedes-specified stuff is more like (actually, seems the same to me as, but it doesn't "melt" and run as easily as) Vaseline (petroleum jelly) than the much more viscous, ubiquitous lithium grease -- MB must have a reason for specifying this, and I would suspect that the Volvo-authorized stuff is similar (similar sun-roofs, right?).

If you're interested, the MB stuff is p/n: A-001-989-46-51. It comes in a can (tub) of about a half-pound (plus a nifty little brush), enough for a lifetime of sunroofs; I also use it to lubricate my Volvos' hood latches, door hinge stops, and lots of other things; and after about five years or so, I've only used about a 1/5 of the stuff in the tub.

Don't know what others have used, but white lithium grease in the tube has worked for me.
