Failing trans mount? 900

Hi,

What are the symptoms for a failing/failed transmission mount? On my 170500 mile 944 Turbo, when I start off from stopped I feel some contact/rubbing in the tunnel right around where the front U joint is. It only lasts for a second or so, and is only felt at low speed.

Thanks,

Ron

    Failing trans mount? 900

    Dear Ron,

Good p.m. and may this find you well. A failing/failed trans mount may disrupt shifting or create noise/vibration, of the sort you've experienced.

You might also want to check the engine mounts, unless they've recently been replaced. There should be 3/8"- 1/2" (10mm-13mm) space between the oil pan's lower surface, and the adjacent cross-member. If the engine is touching the cross member, the motor mounts have given their last, and should be replaced.

Vibration from failed trans/motor mounts passes through the floor pan and into the driver's seat.

If these mounts are the originals, they don't owe you a nickel, and should be replaced.

    Hope this helps.

    Yours faithfully,

    spook
