Rough starting 700 1992

Hi,

I've got a 1992 740 wagon. Over the past few months, it shudders a bit during cold startup like it's going to die. Sometimes it is barely noticible, sometimes worse. If I gas it during startup, it threatens to stall out. This morning it was really bad, almost couldn't start up. Later in the day after work, no problem starting up at all.

It has new plugs, a clean air filter, old plug wires, good gas, regular oil changes, runs great about 3 minutes after starting.

Anybody have an idea of what to check? I'm stumped.

Thanks!

Andy

Maybe check the engine temp sensor connection. If the sensor is bad or the plug is loose it can't send any engine temp info to the ECU. You won't get any extra gas for cold starts.

Thanks for the tip! I found one of the screw-on ends of one of the spark plugs had gotten loose. Haven't seen that happen before but you know what they say... Always check the connections first.

She is starting better now but I like your idea of checking the engine temp sensor connection. Where would I find that on a 1992 740 wagon non-turbo?

Thanks!

Andy
