No starter action. 700 1990

Recently acquired yet another Volvo for daughter #1. It's a nice 90 740 NA. Cannot find a manual for it. There is no Bentley Haynes that covers that year and model.
Current problem: Several times when turning the key to start position there is no cranking, no solonoid action, no dimming of lights. No voltage present at the starter solonoid. Neutral start switch OK, ignition switch seems OK. All dash lights come on normally. Battery voltage is OK. It cranks and starts immediately if I jumper 12V to starter solonoid connector at the starter and then the problem goes away.

I believe there may be a relay in the starter circuit but not having a circuit diagram I cannot confirm this or troubleshoot the problem. Anyone have knowledge of the starter circuit or have a diagram of it?

It's the neutral safety switch. There's nothing else in the starter circuit.

Either your shift linkage has bad bushings, your trans mount is shot, the linkage is worn out, or your neutral safety switch needs to be adjusted.

Does it start in neutral or if you hold the key and wiggle the shifter?

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, did the hold key and wiggle the shifter thing but I guess the switch could still be problem. No relays or anything else in the circuit? Same as an 88 740?

In the meantime I have rigged up a jumper wire from the solonoid to the battery for the next time it happens. Just have to touch the end of it to the battery positive and it starts right up.
