Steering shudder 700 1987

I have a 1987 740GLE, when turning to the right the steering wheel shudders, and a little to the left, but worse to the right. Just installed a used (supposed to be good) rack. Old rack was hard steering both ways and fluid would turn silvery metalic color. Is new rack OK?. Is pump getting wore out and not giving enough pressure? When doing small turns, it's OK, feels like rack is starving on hard turns.
Thanks,

Richie

Pretty typical of air in the system, mine usually takes a few days to completely bleed out. Jack it up and work it lock to lock several times, it should improve if its only air. I use synthetic ATF but not recommended by all board members however with 432,000 mi. it's pretty hard to argue with success!
