SRS Light and Service Engine Loght 900 1993

Just purchased a 93 940 non turbo wagon with 225K. The SRS and Service Engine lights are on. Any hints/ideas on how to get them out? Do I need to read the codes and maybe reset the codes?

I pulled the codes and then cleared all the codes. After several restarts, no lights. Thanks to all and the FAQ too.

Dear Leon,

May this find you well. Is the engine-related light the "Check Engine" light? If so, this will not be affected by pressing the button, under the black rubber plug, in the istrument cluster face. That button resets the "Service Needed" light.

The OBD will suggest what's amiss.

Sometimes, on my 93 940 the SRS light will stay "on" after start-up. It then goes out, while I'm driving. The root cause may be a tad of corrosion. At some point, soon, I'll check it.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

spook

SRS yes, as per the 700/900FAQ, the Service Engine light can be dealt with at the instrument cluster with a firm press of the reset button (use the guts of a BIC pen).

If you are lucky the SRS problem will just be a dirty connection (or even low alternator output).

Good luck!

Herb,
Thanks for the response. I pressed the reset below the rubber plug and it didn't make any difference. I'll check the FAQ.

FWIW, My rubber plug was pushed all the way behind the cluster lens so I could not press on the reset shaft. Yes, they do press hard, but you will "feel" the reset.
If all else fails, pull the cluster, it is not that hard (see FAQ for directions. Also SRS work requires you follow safety directions and disconnect battery first before touching anything SRS related. Usually it is connector between underseat sensor and dash that is dirty a.k.a. oxidized. The lazy solution is to pull the bulb in the dash.

You have to give some of them a pretty firm push- it's a mechanical mechanism you're disengaging, not just a little electrical pushbutton.
