ok, so maybe the old fuel wasn't worth worrying about yet... 200

Ok so after much work i though the old 89 240 was ready to roll, changed cap, rotor, plugs, wires, coolant temp sensor, and checked all fuel lines, vacuum lines, and air passages. I have good fuel pressure and perfect spark. But the car will not start...stiiiiiiiilllll. I am just about ready to push it in a lake. Next step will be to replace the crank position sensor. The symptons are that the car cranks over fine, has fuel and spark, but no life. It doesn't even seem to try to fire. amm is good, fuel relay is good. pumps work, all fuses including the 25amp under the hood have been cleaned or replaced. I am at a loss right now. I even have two ecu's for the car and neither seems to make a difference. Please help, my poor wagon needs some tlc since it has been driven daily for 8 months since the sedan decided to stop working. I can't leave it sitting anyomre

How do you know the AMM is good? Disconnect the connector to the AMM (key off) and then see if it starts, if it does you have a failed AMM. Dan

Having good spark means that replacing the crank pickup will be an excersize in futility. It is obviously doing its job.

Buy a can of starting ether and spray a short shot into the air cleaner box or intake hose and the close things up quickly (before it evaporates). Crank engine. If it sounds different for the first second or two, then it is fuel (to the cylinders) that you are missing. If ether does not improve things and spark to plaugs is good, then camshaft or ignition timing is wrong.

Are you sure the timing is correct? You may have spark, but is it at the right time. Are you sure the plug wires are connected in the right order?

Timing light - check that the sparks are at the right time. If the CPS wasn't working you wouldn't get any sparks at all.

how can the timing move so much to cause a no start, The car ran great until the no start? I figured if the timing moved it would run badly, instead of not at all. The belt isn't broken. I'll pull the belt and redo the timing. On this one there isn't another adjustment is there? b230 engine.
      Thanks

If the re-timing does the trick, then I'd suspect that your timing belt streched and jumped a tooth. Install a new one. Good Luck!
