Intermittent SRS warning light 900 1994

This started just recently. Nearly four years and 40k mi. of ownership with no previous incidents. The only time it happens is after the car has been sitting for about 4hrs in the underground parking beneath my office building. It goes off after about 1-2 minutes of driving. Does not happen after shorter shutdowns, or after overnight outdoors.

So something has changed or is wrong. First, I don't want the airbag to explode in my face at an inappropriate time (!) and if a safety inspection is needed at any point (insurance, etc) this could be a guaranteed 'fail'.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Thanks folks. Misery loves company, so it's good to hear that this happens to others, apparently without ill effect.

I'll check for OBD codes this w/end and report if any appear.

(Javalion - your contribution may have been off-topic, but quite informative and gives me something to check and prevent problems in that area - thanks)

Try cleaning the wheel sensors. There are 2 in front and one more probably in the back right. Qty varies by year. Easy to get to by jacking the car a little and working from the inside of the wheel. One internal hex screw holds it in place. Remove the screw and wiggle it out. PB blast the brass looking screw first. I borrowed the wife’s vac and brush attachment, followed up with a rag and brake cleaner.

Dear Tom,

Good p.m. and hope this finds you well. This procedure will certainly reduce the risk of ABS malfunctions.

However, these wheel sensors are not connected - so far as I can tell - to the SRS (airbag) system.

Yours faithfully,

spook

Dear Bob,

Good p.m. and may this find you well. Have you checked codes (OBD Port B5)? If so, what are they?

This occurs - with no pattern - on my '93 940. I do not recall seeing a post about an airbag deployment, not triggered by a crash. The SRS connectors are gold-plated, so corrosion there should not be an issue.

I suspect it may be triggered by an electrical variation, possibly due to proximity to radio frequency emissions.

I'd be interested to know, if anyone has had this problem, and found a way to make it go away, permanently.

Yours faithfully,

spook

Hello Spook

My 94 has been doing the exact same thing for about 6-8 months now. No codes, and no other problems, just a random srs light that comes and goes.
