side mirror compatibility 1984 to 1990 240 200

I just bought a 1990 244 which has a badly damaged driverside mirror (the actual glass reflective surface )I have spotted at a junk yard a 1984 240 with the previous generation side-mirror on the driver side.

The doors I expect are essentially identical but I don't know if apart from cosmetic consideration the earlier mirror assembly could be fitted in the 1990 "running car". One alternative is to take the glass part from a 1986 mirror (passenger side but it does not shrink image of objests ) which is my parts car and install it in the assembly on the driver's side. Which would be more simple? The 1984 mirror I can get for 20 dollars.

No problem. I put an early 80s (same style as '84, the flat rectangular shaped manual adjust mirror) on my '87. On the pass side I run a blank plate that came from an '80 DL.

When I did it the other way around; which is to say, installed 86+ mirrors on my 83, I had to remove material from the back of the part that mounts to the door to fit over the raised window trim on the 83-85's. I don't recall from when I pulled them at the PnP just how 'finished' that small triangle was underneath the mirror on the later car. That's about the only issue I can think of that you might have to take care of. Just make sure you get all the trim peices inside and out and it should work out OK.
