Remove 3rd row seat seatback on my '91 940 Turbo wagon 900

My '91 940 Turbo wagon has a 3rd row seat. I've already pulled out the second row seat bottoms (skis, bicycle, no kids).

Now I find a use for the storage under the cargo bay floor, above the spare tire. The 3rd row seat bottom came out with a little wrenching. The seat back seems to be unremovable, hinging on metal pegs going through metal welded to the body.

Anyone know how to remove this with the least damage possible? I (or the next owner--only 200k, you know) may want to put it back into one piece later.

Thanx,

"hinging on metal pegs going through metal welded to the body"

No damage is necessary to remove the 3rd seat. Take a close look at where those hinges go through the metal welded to the body. One of the "hinge pins" is spring loaded (sort of like a toilet paper holder). Simply push the pin in toward the center of the car and it should come out of the metal bracket on that side of the seat. Lift that side of the seat upward, away from the metal bracket. Then, you can shift the other side of the seat lift the seat away from its metal bracket.

It will all appear logical once the seat is out!

Hope this helps.

Got it! It's on the passenger side.

Being 15 y.o., a good shot of bicycle chain-style silicone lube was required to get it budging. That's why it appeared fixed when I first looked.

I tried pushing the pin in with an assortment of tools. There's not a lot of clearance, leverage, or attack angle in that manner.

The working manuver was to pull the seat cover (vinyl or leather) back slightly, then push a dull, wide-blade screwdriver to compress the spring itself, on the inboard side of the solid mounting. The pin just drew back with the spring. Much better leverage, much better view of when the pin was clear.

Thanx much!

If you don't need the seat, consider selling it. I bought one off this site! Just be sure to include all mounting bolts and of course all seat-belt elements with it.
