Info on Bosch distributor VJU 4 BL 33 444-544

Hello and great site you have here.

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with any info on a Bosch VJU 4 BL 33
DISTRIBUTOR. What models and years do they fit, how much I should pay for a used one or rebuilt? my mechanic and I both need to know. Any others for the b20 or b18.
Thank you,
Jesse

There's three distributors that will fit, one with vacuum advance, one with vacuum retard, and one with no vacuum at all. The vacuum advance is the hard one to find. The other two are relatively more commen. A rebuilt one is available from Bosch, I got one (a vacuum retard) from my local auto parts store for $120. I also have a straight advance one that is new, I have been experimenting with the two to see which runs better. I've been looking for a vacuum advance one for a couple of years with no luck. Anyone else done any experiments with the points curve? Results?

I have the vacuum advance unit on my B20. It performs very well, but the points have gone in favor of an electronic ignition system.

If you're looking for the vacuum advance unit, try getting one from a fuel injected B20. You won't need the sensors and plug for the lower connector; just put it in place and set it up like a regular distributor.

Is there a particular reason you want this particular distributor?
There are a lot of different distributors that would work on a B18 or B20.
Some might be available as gifts with the right relationship.

Just like old org with a badge that's look to be in concorse condition or close.
Don't know much about them looking to get one for a friend and I like to research what I buy. He mentioned looking for a near mint Bosch vju4bl33 but could not find one with a clean enough badge. This was 3 months ago,his birthdays coming up..so

Gonna check some online parts sites, maybe ebay too.
I'll let you know what I find.

      Thanks again

That's the original B18D (and maybe B18A?) distributor with vacuum advance, not retard. Not sure what the last year for it was... '65 or so maybe? Most of theones I've seenhave been on 544s.

I bought one at a swap meet for $6 which needed disassembly and cleaning, but not rebushing. One of my customers got one in similar condition from Olof at vintageimparts.com more recently, but I don't know what he paid.
