Door hinge installation questions 200 1993

To put a new drivers door hinge in, do I take the door completely off?
or keep the door in place and the upper hinge connected and somehow remove and replace the lower hinge? Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks.

I used a floor jack to support the door while I removed the bottom hinge. The door panel doesn't have to be removed, but the kick panel does. Try to get the new hinge in as close to the original hinge's position so adjustment is minimal. You can use wooden shims placed in the opening to make the final adjustments.

You could always just use a cutting torch on the hinge and then weld the new one on. Wait, will that cause a fire inside the door?? hmmm..Who needs electric windows anyway.... Ok go get the soldering gun and ....never mind it was just a passing thought..it's gone now,, wheee that was close

Yes. rig some way to brace the door from the bottom, or if in a garage rope it up to a rafter...just figure a way to take the strain off the top hinge.

of course you've got the remove the inside door panel and probably some plastic liner...plus the kick panel... to get to the bolts. not hard at all unless you take the door off completely.
