I know this isn't a Volvo-related question, but I know there are a lot of automotive-competent people out in the 200 series forums and frankly the Mercedes message boards are comical. (Ex. How do I do an oil change?) While driving my 190E back home last night, I was screwing around with a VW Passat going about 120MPH...I noticed while driving this fast that the "FASTEN SAFETY BELTS" light that never worked decided to randomly work for about a couple of seconds until I slowed down and it shut off. (I thought it was funny...as if the car was warning me to buckle up while going this fast haha) Also the overhead light that again never worked, worked for a couple of seconds upon turning it on. Why in the world could this happen? I'm assuming there's a deteriorating wire somewhere?

Don't know. BUT that would be funny if Mercedes gives ayou a second 'Heads-up' on the seatbelt when slightly exceeding highway speeds.

You gotta save that 120 MPH stuff for the motorcycle, it's too dangerous in a car...that's why they have seatbelts in cars. LOL

Yeah, I can rememeber buckling my seat belt in preparation for high-intensity driving. About 35 years ago, when having a drivers license was still a new thing for me and Corvairs were still on the road! (ref. "Unsafe at Any Speed" by Ralph Nader). My ride? Dad's 6-cyl Mustang!

I don't think that I have ever before challenged a claim made by a fellow brickster - but 120MPH in a 190e? Come on now; only if it were pushed off a cliff.

Lets see, 32 ft per second squared.........a tall cliff.

To be fair, I should acknowledge that mechanical speedometers tend to pretty accurate up to about 75, and they tend to get a little glory-seeking at higher speeds.

It's entirely believable if it's one of the ones with the Cosworth engine (190E 2.3-16)

I would look and see if the seat belt light and the dome light are on the same fuse. If so, that's probably the cause. Check the fuse and its socket for corrosion. Clean/replace as needed.
