Best tool for removing floorpans? 200

I'm going to do some patching on my 245's floorpans soon. The gameplan is to go to the pick and pull and cut some good sheetmetal from the floors of a '92 or so 240 to use as donor material. That way, it will be the proper shape, etc. I understand that the later models used galvinized metal to discourage rust, so I figured this would be the best way to get good metal. When I get the panels, they will be trimmed to fit and welded in.

Anyway, there isn't any power at the pick and pull, so I'll have to go cordless. My options are to buy either a DeWalt 18v grinder and use a cutoff wheel or to buy a DeWalt 18v recip saw to harvest the panels.

Any ideas on which one would be better? I think the metal is only about 16 ga. or so.

Unless there is a LOT of contour to the areas you plan to patch, it is easier
to get new steel. You can get black or galvanized at a sheetmetal shop and
if you are real nice they might even cut it to shape for you. I used 16
gauge in my 122 but I think the original is more like 18 or 20, which is a lot
easier to form. Also galvanized does not weld as well and is not good to
breathe while welding (zinc chills, etc). Zinc-contaminated welds may be
    brittle.

Why don't you buy (or borrow) a portable generator. One of the small 850 watt ones will run an angle grinder or drill - then you don't have the problem of flat batteries etc.

They don't allow 110v power tools on the yard, although they will allow one to bring in cordless tools. I had thought of the generator idea as a friend has a small one that I could borrow.

Some of the areas that need to be patched are where the "x" bracing in the floor pan is.

As for the zinc, I'm going to grind through the plating, so there isn't any in the actual area that is welded. I'm familiar with the hazards of welding galvinized steel.
